Maggie

In June 2011, our family was faced with making the most heartbreaking decision of our lives.  We said farewell to our 15 year old siberian husky Bailey.  As we sat there on the floor of our vets office with Bailey, tears flowing all over the place, I remember saying to my husband, "We will NEVER get another dog.  I cannot go through this heartache again."  For the first time in our lives, we did not have a dog in our home.  Aside from having a 6 year old daughter, our home became relatively "quiet" for 2 years.  In April 2013, a friend of mine told me about Colbert Veterinary Rescue in Georgia.  On May 17, 2013, we opened our hearts and our home to a sweet, loving and spunky Catahoula Leopard Dog puppy.  We named her Maggie.  The staff at CVRS are one of a kind!  They are truly wonderful people and make such a difference in the animal world!  Our family is complete thanks to Dr. A and all the staff at CVRS.  We can't imagine our lives without Maggie and will forever be grateful to CVRS!

Moxie

I wanted to add my two cents about Colbert Vet Rescue.  I became aware of this organization back in January 2010 when I adopted my amazing and gorgeous dog, Moxie (formerly Gertie) at an event they held in Norwalk, CT.  My understanding is that during the transport in December  2009 they hit a blizzard and had to turn back before making it all the way north.  I heard a heartwarming tale of how all the dogs on the transport were put up in the pool room of a motel near where they had to stop due to the weather.  The chaos of getting all of those dogs taken care of in the worst of situations is mind boggling…until you actually meet the Colbert crew.  The group of people that care for and love these dogs, when they are in GA and during their journey north, is inspiring and amazing. As a volunteer at adoption events, I've seen Dr. Andrews cry, tears of joy (or mostly joy I suspect) when one of her dogs finds it's new forever home.   I've witnessed the people who spend the majority of time with the dogs speak with potential owners providing great detail about each dog yet with a careful and watchful eye making sure that these dogs get only the best loving home.  I've encountered the care and concern when one of their dogs runs into trouble- like Gage who bolted out of the car right after being adopted- Dr. Andrews found him; or the pup who ended up in a pound in MA and they went to the ends of the earth to get that dog back within their care.

The work that the Colbert Vet Rescue does not only saves so many animal lives it inspires all that encounter them to be as loving and as thoughtful towards our four-legged friends as possible.  I am honored to participate in their adoption events as I so moved by this amazing group of ani
mal lovers- to be a part of something that they do is so humbling.
